The vast numbers of electric motors in use today consume around two thirds of all the electricity used in industry. Huge savings could be made in energy and carbon dioxide outputs if we all used more energy efficient motors.
The vast numbers of electric motors in use today consume around two thirds of all the electricity used in industry. Huge savings could be made in energy and carbon dioxide outputs if we all used more energy efficient motors.
So governments across Europe have introduced MEPS or Energy Saving Performance Standards to use the full title. MEPS set mandatory minimum efficiency levels for electric motors introduced into European markets.
MEPS will be phased in over three stages – the first began in June 2011. The second stage takes effect from January 2015 when all IE2 motors must be sold with a drive (VSD) or IE3 motors must be used. The final phase will happen in January 2017.
